At YMCA Warrigal Road, our vision is for all children and staff to feel culturally safe, secure, supported and included in our service. We will continue to respect and honour the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we gather to play and learn. Together, children, educators and families will continue to deepen our understanding of the importance of engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and perspectives.
We will continue to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and pedagogies in our program development and delivery so that these can be respectfully passed on to children in our care.
We will continue to provide opportunities for children to learn from Traditional Custodians about connections to Country and foster a love of the land, being outdoors and stewardship.
We continue to foster an environment that promotes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and perspectives and are committed to continuing to be an embedded part of our daily program and practice and ensure we continue to develop meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, children, educators, and the wider community. Through these relationships, we will continue to engage in learning, unlearning, and relearning to foster a deep and meaningful engagement with reconciliation in our context.
We want children, educators, and families to understand the full histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the truths of Australia’s shared history since colonisation. We support children to develop for themselves and each other, a sense of respect, belonging and community, and aim for future generations to learn from the mistakes of the past and never to repeat them.
We want the children in our care to develop a meaningful and authentic relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities, and perspectives and to be enriched by this in their time at YMCA and in the community.
