National Quality Standard

803 schools and early learning services have added this Action to their RAP.

Early learning services should ensure their engagement with the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) National Quality Standard involves the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions in their daily practice and programming, as well as authentic and meaningful engagement with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

The National Quality Standard (NQS) ensures quality care and education for Australian children at:

  • long day care
  • family day care
  • preschool/kindergarten
  • outside school hours’ care.

In your commitments to this RAP Action, you must look at how reconciliation fits into how you fulfill the expectations of the NQS.

The Quality Areas of the NQS guide professional practice for early learning educators. In particular, NQS Quality Area 6 asks educators to make connections and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

It’s important to recognise that reconciliation and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives are also relevant to other Quality Areas.

Reflect on how to include with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions with all NQS Quality Areas in your early learning service's daily practice and programming.
