Capel Sounds Educational Child Care Centre

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

We want to embark on an exciting journey to learn about the First Peoples of Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have continued to be connected to lands across Australia for thousands of years and it is our responsibility to explore their diverse and far ranging cultures and respectfully share this knowledge and understanding with the children and families in our community. We understand that to truly learn we must collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our area, and that we must collaboratively develop an informed and authentic way of learning and sharing.

We come to our reconciliation journey with a limited knowledge base but we are dedicated to ongoing processes of exploring, discovering and learning together. We understand that it will be a long journey but one we are committed to make. We will be inviting all members of our Capel Sounds community to come along and learn with us and then extending this invitation to the wider community.

We believe it is essential to involve the children at Capel Sounds- we will respectfully embed knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions into our everyday practices and have open and interesting conversations with the children in our care. We will respectfully incorporate local Boonwurrung/Bunurong values into the heart of our practices at Capel Sounds. By actively committing to our RAP, we will begin to discover more about the cultures and values of the First Peoples and it is our mission to do so in a respectful way.
