Monash Children’s Centre’s vision for reconciliation is to create a culturally safe and secure environment for children, families, educators and the community and foster unity between non-Indigenous and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We aim to work in partnership to build mutual relationships, based on trust and respect between families, educators, and management. We will foster a culture of positivity that upholds fairness and equity, historical acceptance of our shared history, and an inclusive and diverse workplace that is not only culturally safe but also culturally rich, proud, and welcoming to all the families that entrust their children to our care. In the spirit of reconciliation, Monash Children’s Centre actively seeks to build respectful relationships with s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by learning from the Traditional Custodians about their culture and the true histories of this place. . Our connection to Monash University influences the high expectations we hold for the education, care, and development of children and educators. We acknowledge that long before our story began, children on this Land were taken care of, nurtured, and educated by First Nations families. Through the sharing of knowledge, open communication and collaborative decision-making, we build partnerships between us and the wider community, as we actively support reconciliation. We acknowledge the wrongs of the past and the ongoing impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples and focus on making a better future for the younger generation. Through education and understanding, we endeavour to grow and build positive steps towards reconciliation.
