At Bright Sparks Early Learning, we are committed to reconciliation. We value and respect the cultures, contributions, and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and believe that teaching and learning should reflect this. We would like all children to have a deeper understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and beliefs and feel that this needs to begin from an early age. We achieve this by encouraging all educators to reflect on their own knowledge and take action to gain more understanding. We hope for an Australia that embraces unity between non-Indigenous Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and a national culture that represents equality and equity, historical acceptance of our shared history, and removal of negative race relations. We are committed to ensuring families feel a strong sense of belonging and that their own views are respected. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives will be respectfully embedded into all aspects of our program. Learning about the diverse histories and cultures within Australia supports children in developing respect for diversity and an understanding of cultural differences. Our educators are committed to equity and equality and recognise that all children have the right to participate in inclusive early childhood settings. Bright Sparks Early Learning will assist in fostering a high level of understanding ofin the culture, traditions, and language of the Dharawal people, for the children, families, educators of our early learning centre, and the local community of Appin.
