Our Wilston Kids Care community is an inclusive environment where people from diverse backgrounds feel welcomed, celebrated, valued, and understood. We respect, encourage and include all families of diverse cultures and backgrounds through representation in our Educational Program and throughout the Service.
Our vision for the community is to be supportive and involved in learning, respecting and acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and histories, as we believe that, through our community connections, we provide our children with a sense of belonging and harmony in the world around them.
At Wilston Kids Care we are committed to:
- Recognising Australia's First Peoples as Traditional Owners of the Land
- Nurturing a community built on trust and respect
- Cultivating an inclusive learning of all cultures – including the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures - represented in Australian communities, with a focus on encouraging children to build strong cultural identities
- Respectfully embedding Indigenous perspectives as part of our everyday learning program and actively recognising the cultural rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Building understanding through respectfully embedding and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures within our service
- Strengthening relationships between the broader community and Indigenous groups and lands
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledge are an essential consideration within the context of Australia and provide unique opportunities for learning within our programs. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Land where we learn, work and play, the Turrbal and Yagura Peoples, and the ongoing valuable contributions of Australia’s First Peoples. Through connections with local communities and ongoing learning for all of us at Wilston Kids Care, we hope to continue the journey to reconciliation.
