Tillys Play & Education Centre – Rutherford is committed to cultivating deep respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and cultures while authentically working towards equality and equity in educational outcomes and reconciliation. Our aim is to have a whole centre approach to meaningfully embedding First Nations peoples’ perspectives into our programs holistically and with the support from families, local First Nation Elders and the wider community.
We recognise that our reconciliation journey will be unique and that we will face many challenges in achieving our goals. But we are committed to facing those challenges and having a community that is educated and aware of the history and discrimination Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have faced since colonisation. We will respect First Nations peoples’ views and beliefs in our practices with children and families.
Our vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Islander peoples’ cultural identities are respected and visible in our centre. We want our centre to be a culturally safe and inclusive environment, ensuring that all First Nations families and community members feel a sense of belonging.
