Avenues Montessori Children's House - Bowen Hills

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision is a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognised as being the First Nations people of Australia. Where all Australians embrace Elders past, present and future for the wisdom and knowledge they hold and share and support emerging leaders in local communities. Avenues Montessori is contributing to an Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, children and families are able to feel a sense of belonging and strong connections with community and Country; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultural identity is respected, and  feel culturally safe in all spaces; and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are recognised and nurtured as the creators, thinkers and doers of today and tomorrow. Within this vision is for all families in Avenues Montessori Community to feel valued and respected.

We acknowledge the right of all children and families attending AMCH to know the histories and cultures of the Land on which we come together to play and learn.

We commit to extend knowledge and understanding around Australia’s first peoples in ways that are embedded in our everyday practice and across all curriculum area.  Developing a deeper understanding and connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will enrich the lives of all our staff, families and children.  We will work in partnership to provide meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to contribute through our programs. As educators we aspire to do this by supporting our community to develop an understanding and knowledge of the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and continuing contributions.
