Alstonville Community Preschool acknowledges and values the cultural histories and traditions, and the continuing contributions, of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We celebrate the fact that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples 'cultures are the oldest continuous living cultures on the planet.
We recognise the impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, lands and waters, languages and communities, as well as recognising the strengths and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures in the face of colonial inequalities and inequities.
We believe reconciliation is about accepting the true history of Australia and committing to respect, unity and celebrating cultures and strengths.
We recognise that equality and equity in early childhood education is an important part of a reconciled nation.
Our vision is that:
•Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are actively recognised as the First Nations people of Australia.
•All Australians value and embrace Elders past, present and future of our local and wider communities.
•All families, children and staff feel a sense of belonging and have strong connections to community and Country.
We believe this can be achieved through respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives into our everyday practice and continue developing meaningful connections with the local Bundjalung community and inspiring respect and care for Country.
