Tuggerah OOSH acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of Lands across Australia. Tuggerah OOSHC aims to provide a strong platform for the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Tuggerah OOSH celebrates the diversity of First Nations peoples and their ongoing cultures and connections to the Lands and waterways of the beautiful county.
We take responsibility in educating and supporting children/young people to better understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' diverse identities, cultures and perspectives, that have been passed down from generation to generation. We also acknowledge the past and commit to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in alignment with Reconciliation Australia's vision, that 'we would like a just, equitable and reconciled Australia. Our purpose is to inspire and enable all Australians too contribute to the reconciliation of the nation'.
We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians, with unique cultures, languages and spiritual relationships to the Lands and seas. We are strongly committed to improving the lives of children and young people and to upholding the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Our vision for reconciliation is to nurture a community that will show respect, acceptance, and appreciation and that values all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.
We work closely with the school, parents/carers, children and local community to make this a reality throughout our centre now and in the future. A better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia's cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of a shared sense of Australian unity and identity.
