Warikila, Happy Valley Community Kindergarten, recognise the oldest and continuing cultures of the First Nations peoples and acknowledge the true history that resulted in intergenerational injustices, inequalities and inequities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since colonisation. We pay respect and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the Country, Country on which we learn, play and work. We recognise The First Nation's peoples’ connection to Country and strive to learn more about the oldest surviving culture on Earth.
Providing a safe place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and staff is embedded deep in our centre philosophy and pedagogy. By actively working to remove barriers and provide safe, rich and meaningful learning experiences, we hope to reduce prejudice and celebrate knowledge gained from partnerships with Elders and community.
While working towards reconciliation we will strive to build positive and respectful relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community ensuring that interactions and experiences are authentic and genuine.
Our ongoing commitment to progressing reconciliation with young children will be achieved by building positive relationships, demonstrating respect, and providing a safe space for all.
