At Narnia Kindergarten, we are dedicated to respectfully embedding and understanding the perspectives, traditions, and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We honor and respect the rich cultural heritages, contributions, and experiences of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Our vision includes a strong emphasis on connecting with the local Darumbal peoples in the Rockhampton region. Recognising the diverse cultural landscape shaped by the Woorabinda Mission, which is home to over 51 different clan groups, we aim to incorporate and teach about the diverse cultures, teachings, and learnings of various Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clan groups in our curriculum and pedagogy.
We commit to fostering consistent exploration and engagement that promotes understanding and active engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. This includes truth-telling about the nation's complex histories to ensure that history is learned from and not repeated. Our curriculum will provide opportunities for exploration and understanding and will integrate cultural responsiveness into everyday learning. We will foster and maintain a community that reflects on the cultural heritage of this nation. Our goal is for children to recognise the ongoing cultural influence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to contribute to the future of a more inclusive nation. We continue to ensure our staff are culturally confident and equipped to engage in difficult conversations during cultural learning. We remain steadfast and committed to change and our dedication to reconciliation is unwavering. We will continue to establish and maintain respectful relationships with Elders and local First Nations community members.
