GS Pialba will continue to weave reconciliation through the fabric of our GS community so it's in the hearts and minds of our EC community. GS Pialba, at a personal and professional level, commits to progressing reconciliation and strengthening the cultural responsiveness of the service. We acknowledge we are taking small steps and commit to building capability of all at GS Pialba by strengthening cultural responsiveness across all environments through strong links with Butchulla Elder in residence, through listening, talking and walking respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on Butchulla Country and across Australia. We commit to building stronger relationships and mutual respect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through shared understandings. We will deepen understandings of the true histories of Australia, engage in truth telling and acknowledge how history shapes outcomes in the present and future for all peoples. We recognise First Nations communities connections to Country as we engage together with concepts of social justice, fairness, sharing, democracy and citizenship with a positive view to embed reconciliation in education into our service. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples traditional ways of being and caring for children. In consultation with Butchulla people and community, we commit to providing a culturally safe environment and creating high quality culturally appropriate early childhood education for all children, supporting all children to thrive in their early years. We envision enacting the words of Dr Tom Calma: "Here in Australia we're fortunate enough to have one of the richest and oldest continuing cultures in the world. This is something we should all be proud of and celebrate." (Dr Tom Calma, AO, 2013).
