Tyabb Village Children's Centre is dedicated to maintaining strong, respectful relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities to assist and guide us so we can provide an educational program which is authentic and informed by First Nations voices for children, families and educators. This is the foundation which creates a safe space for children to thrive, free from racism, judgement, and fear.
We will share with the children and families the knowledge which is gifted to us so that we can be confident when we to talk about First Nations perspectives, histories, cultures and contemporary topics within our community. Children are supported to listen deeply and respectfully ask questions when Elders come to visit so they can share the knowledge with their family and friends. We believe that children are agents of change in their communities, and they are key participants in our reconciliation journey.
Through education, understanding and a strong connection to Country, children become environmentally aware, they are curious, and equipped to make choices which will protect the environment.
At Tyabb Village we will always be learning and reflecting. We promise to listen with intent and be guided by the knowledge of Elders and experts. In partnership with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community we will participate in reconciliation initiatives and actively support First Peoples right to reconciliation through voice and participation and lead our communities by example.
2025 NAIDOC Week theme -The Next Generation, Strength, Vision and Legacy, identifies the need for early education and highlights the important role young children will have in the future combating racial and cultural prejudice to grow healthy environments where First Nations children feel valued and respected and show a strong sense of belonging and pride in their family's heritage.
