VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Glassford Street Uniting Kindergarten, our vision for reconciliation is to plant the seeds of respect, kindness, and understanding early in life so that future generations grow up empowered to build inclusive, compassionate, and just communities. We believe reconciliation is lived through relationships, relationships that honour culture, uphold truth, and nurture a strong sense of belonging. We envision a future where all children grow up deeply connected to Country and community in a learning environment that recognises and celebrates the strength, diversity, and continuing cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially the Gunai Kurnai peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we live and learn. Reconciliation at our kindergarten means creating a culturally safe and responsive environment where children are immersed in stories, languages, perspectives, and knowledge systems that reflect the deep history and living cultures of First Nations peoples. It means engaging in truth-telling, listening with intention, and walking forward together with respect, integrity, and purpose. Our educators are committed to this journey. We continue to learn, unlearn, and relearn as we strengthen our understanding and practice. We are guided by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and Elders, and we embed their voices and perspectives meaningfully into our everyday curriculum and relationships. This is a shared journey built on trust, respect, and ongoing action. We are working toward a reconciled Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have equal opportunities to thrive, and where their cultures, rights, and knowledge systems are recognised as a vital and valued part of our national identity. Through this vision, we commit to growing strong hearts, open minds, and meaningful connections with Country, with each other, and with the shared story of this place.
