"Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that reminds us that while generations of Australians have fought hard for meaningful change, future gains are likely to take just as much, if not more, effort. In a just, equitable and reconciled Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children will have the same life chances and choices as non-Indigenous children, and the length and quality of a person’s life will not be determined by their racial background." - Reconciliation Australia
In relation to our reconciliation journey so far, we have incorporated First Nations peoples’ perspectives into our programs and practices and have this proudly on display within our service. Our educators enjoy providing children with experiences and opportunities to learn and explore elements of culture and country and acknowledge and celebrate special events such as Reconciliation Week. Our next steps will be exploring how we can do more to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, histories and perspectives into our classrooms, service and community. Exploring new skills and strategies that educators can utilise when teaching, planning and engaging with children and educating our families on how they too can learn about and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, histories and perspectives within the home. At Yogies, we have an ongoing commitment to this process and journey and all it entails. We are excited about this process and look forward to reflecting on and celebrating our ongoing progress. A main aim for our service is to connect with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to further develop our knowledge and understanding of the First Nations peoples' perspectives and and how we can respectfully incorporate this into our practices.
