VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Hughesdale Primary School, we aim to ensure that the staff, students and wider parent and carer community understand and acknowledge the cultural richness of the Wurundjeri People; the Traditional Custodians of this Land and on which our school stands.

As a community, we will learn about the local First Nation peoples' histories by engaging with Wurundjeri Elders, listening to their stories and developing ongoing and meaningful relationships with them.

The staff at Hughesdale Primary School will endeavour to become proficient in their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and the strength of their connections to Country. We believe that we will genuinely and respectfully integrate First Nations histories and perspectives into the curriculum is a key to reconciliation and this can only be achieved through respectfully engaging with local First Nations groups and organisations. Incorporated into this endeavour will be the understanding of the cultural diversity of First Nations groups Australia wide.

We believe in listening to the perspectives of First Nations students, parents and carers, and integrating these voices into curriculum delivery.
