VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

SEDA College SA (SCSA) is a place that promotes a sense of belonging for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the provision of a wholly inclusive and culturally responsive environment. We prioritise First Nations peoples’ agency, perspectives and unique processes across every level of the organisation and each component of its programs, so all students, staff, families and wider community understand and take pride in First Nations peoples’ histories, contributions and cultures.

Our continued aim is for all students to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures and for all staff to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into our curriculum and learning environments.

SCSA recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia and acknowledge the past injustices that continue to impact Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today. We will advocate for a more just, equal and equitable society to ensure past injustices do not occur today or into the future.

We also recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing process which involves learning, unlearning and relearning to build upon our understanding of our national identity to promote justice and recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is about educating all Australians to acknowledge and build a better understanding of the past and how the past impacts the lives of First Nations peoples and all Australians today.

We provide culturally responsive learning environments and supportive anti-racism policies and structures that empower and enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and staff to attain equal and equitable opportunities for educational. personal and professional success, acknowledging the continuing richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' cultures, contributions and histories.

We continue to achieve our vision for reconciliation through developing and maintaining relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, valuing and acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories, participating in and promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events and integrating First Nations perspectives into key learning areas and environments.
