At Parkside Community OSHC, our vision for reconciliation, is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and non-Indigenous cultures can come together in unity. We believe in respect and dignity for First Nations children and non-Indigenous children and the cultures they belong to. We firmly believe that this notion must begin with the acknowledgement and celebration of the First Peoples of Australia and the oldest continuing cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We create and acknowledge the importance of a culturally respectful program that seeks to educate and connect children with the Traditonal Owners and Custodians of the Land upon which Parkside Community OSHC sits, Kaurna Land. We see their traditions and connectedness to the Land as essential tools for supporting education as we continue to includeFirst Nationsperspectives within our curriculum in meaningful and authentic ways and in collaboration with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
An important part in facilitating cultural responsiveness among children, staff and community is first feeling confident and knowledgeable in our own understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Our service resides in the notion that true reconciliation lies within respect, appreciation, and collaborating with the Nation's First Peoples.
