SHEL’s vision is a reconciled Australia where the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples are based on equality, equity, dignity and respect. We aspire to see our national soul healed and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures to be fully valued. We wish for broken relationships to be restored and social inequalities eradicated. SHEL Coomera has just launched our RAP with a vision for an equitable and equal Australia where the 60,000 year old cultures and the continuing connections to Country of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are respected and celebrated. The RAP outlines practical actions that will move SHEL closer to reconciliation both internally and in the communities in which we work. We're aiming to be aspirational and innovative in our actions, and are focusing on: •developing and strengthening relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples •engaging staff and stakeholders in reconciliation •developing initiatives that teach all children to be culturally aware and immersed in reconciliation Our RAP will help SHEL to deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures; our shared history; and the policies that have significantly shaped the health, safety, education opportunities and wellbeing inequalities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families today to improve our practices. We want to empower our staff, children and families to make an active contribution to reconciliation.
