Peak Sports and Learning Shellharbour educators and families believe we can learn with and from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the Dharawal people, the Custodians of the local community. We believe that reconciliation is a vital part of our program, as it enables us to share our experiences of how we have strengthened our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision is to foster an understanding of the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives for the future generation, by reflecting on the mistakes that were made in the past and how we can work together to make a difference moving forward. Reconciliation is about fostering the development of positive and respectful relationships between Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. .
We believe that it is important to support and engage children through positive role modelling and ensuring our pedagogy and practice is focused on scaffolding their understanding of what it means to be a part of a society that can move forward, respectfully, by committing to being united and working together to build a better country for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and all Australians. At Peak Shellharbour we aim to strengthen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures as we commit to working toward a safe and equitable place for everyone. We aim to provide a welcoming and safe environment for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and pledge to value their knowledge.Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in the Classroom
