Avenues Parkinson acknowledges the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures have on the Australian culture and community. We also recognise the enormous strength Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples demonstrate when facing past and present injustices. we acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to be the longest surviving cultures in the world dating back to over 60,000 years.
Our vision is to provide al a culturally safe place for children within our centre and the community to access quality care that supports all children to learn, grow and thrive. That supports respects, values, and celebrates the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and knowledges. We recognise the loss and grief suffered from our shared histories and the ongoing impacts of colonisation. We hope to learn, teach and grow from our continued connection to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Community Agencies and communities.
We are committed to supporting children’s understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn and play. We will continue to embed learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and true histories through exploring the Yuggera Land, language, art, music, Native foods and their benefits by planting and using bush tucker, caring for the living environment and only taking what we need from the land. For our own understanding we will continue to undergo professional development and independent research to deepen our own knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ ways to better support our children's learning experiences and knowledge.
