Elwood Childrens Centre respects and recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as First Nations peoples of Australia and we acknowledge the Boonwurrung People of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Land on which our early childhood service is located. We value and respect the knowledge, teachings, strength, diversity, and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities around Australia. Elwood Childrens Centre is also cognizant of the past and present injustices and disadvantages the First Peoples of Australia experience and continue to suffer. ECC is committed to building and maintaining ongoing partnership between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader Australian community as we believe in the power of partnerships and relationships. Partnerships involve more than a relationship. Relationships occur when partnerships are positive, collaborative, share a common goal, and based on respect and trust. As an early childhood service, we are in a particular position to begin the reconciliation journey with families and children. We can contribute to building a better future where all Australians come together to take on personal responsibilities, raise awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories and cultures, and move forward by truth telling about past injustices to enable peace and healing within thecommunity. Through working together, and including children from a young age, we can grow, learn and build a deeper understanding in our reconciliation journey.
