As Australian early childhood educators, we acknowledge our crucial role in shaping the lives of children from diverse backgrounds. A key component of our mission is fostering reconciliation, beginning with the children under our guidance. We are committed to cultivating and environment where each child feels valued, appreciated, and connected to the profound heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision for reconciliation is rooted in three main areas. Firstly, we focus on educating the children. We believe that instilling an appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures from a young age is essential. By developing intentional and engaging learning experiences, we strive to cultivate a deep respect for First Nations peoples histories, cultures, and perspectives. Through structured activties, an inclusive curriculum, and welcoming environments, we aim to nurture children's pride in their Australian identity. The second focus area is the continous professional development of all educators. We recognise that many of us lacked adequate education about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures during our own formative years. Therefore, we are commitied to expanding our knowledge and understanding as adults. This self-development is crucial to delivering authentic and meaning educational experiences to the children we serve, ensuring that the reconciliation process is genuine, effective, and impactful. Finally, we aim to unite educators, families, and children in a community where we honour and celebrate the cultures of Australia's First Nations peoples. Through these partnerships, we hope to create a future generation that respects diversity and works toward reconciliation in meaningful and lasting ways.
