We are committed to creating a culturally welcoming and safe spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to acknowledge and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures through everyday practices. We want families and jarjums (children) to feel welcomed and supported as they enter our spaces, knowing that we care and that we want to build respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community. We will respectfully invite local Aboriginal Elders and community members into our early education service to teach about Widjabul Wia-bul cultures, histories and perspectives to share with our educators, families and jarjums as appropriate. With the support and knowledge of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members we can learn, grow and teach our jarjums, staff and community cultural competence, acceptance and the importance of walking alongside others and sharing in their journey.
