Our Values: As the management, educators and community of Bright House Preschool, we endeavour to continue to engage with, and model to children, what is valuable and equitable in Australia and in humanity (Becoming). We recognise that children's connection to their community is important to their sense of wellbeing (Belonging). In addition, we eagerly provide children with resources and experiences of diversity and cultures, to learn from and enjoy (Being). In support of these, we recognise the beauty, value and priority in strengthening our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in the local area.
We acknowledge the continuing ownership and custodianship that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the Lands throughout Australia and visibly respect the connection that Aboriginal People have to the Land on which our preschool is situated.
We endeavour to respectfully teach about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives and value their contributions to community and society. We commit to gaining a deeper knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of learning and knowing, and where possible, respectfully reflecting that knowledge in our service. We will provide training opportunities and support educators to further their cultural responsiveness to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout our preschool.
Our Objectives are to continue to look at enhancing the visual representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and provide opportunities for children to respectfully learn about and experience Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures through varied ways and respectfully engaging with members of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. We look to facilitate equal and equitable opportunities to access our service and respectfully engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
