VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Deborah Little Early Learning Centre is committed to a living, ongoing journey of reconciliation.

At the heart of our reconciliation journey we:

•Acknowledge that we gather and learn on Gadigal Land. •Recognise that reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians working in partnership towards true reconciliation. •Recognise the ongoing resilience and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; the oldest living cultures in world. •Recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage as a central and proud part of our national identity. •Recognise that we must connect with the past, and understand Australia’s true histories. We must understand the wrongs of the past, and the deep pain these have inflicted on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and how these continue to impact on the present. •Recognise the importance of adopting a trauma-informed lens to all our curriculum, and pedagogical approaches. •Commit to addressing instances of racism towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.  •Acknowledge the importance of providing opportunities for children and families to broaden their knowledge and understanding of Australia’s true histories. •Commit to respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and perspectives throughout our curriculum in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. •Recognise the importance of having Aboriginal and Torres Islander peoples, voices and perspectives within the classroom and that some teachings must be undertaken by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. •Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to thrive, and support all of our children, families and educators to understand, value and respect the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. •Acknowledge that this Land was never ceded.
