Mia Mia vision for reconciliation recognises and understands:
The significance of the early years of childhood and education is pivotal in children’s learning, understanding, valuing and respecting the rich and continuing heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and traditions.
The role of early childhood teachers and educators is to create a culturally safe place where “Western and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems work side by side" (Australian Government Department of Education [AGDE], 2022, p.17).
The importance of fostering and building children’s awareness of First Nations cultures in the local community.
Our continuing commitment to modelling positive relationships within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community at Mia Mia, based on reciprocal relationships, respecting diversity, and advocating for equality, equity and promoting social justice and inclusion.
The necessity of thinking deeply and enacting cultural responsiveness with active engagement and collaboration with the local First Nations community at Macquarie University through ethical and culturally sensitive programming, research and approaches.
Through the development of Mia Mia’s RAP, it is our intent that we will walk together into the future with a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value of respect
