We respectfully acknowledge the Yuggera and Turrbal People, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school is built. In this place, we aim to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for students, families and our wider community. Our vision for reconciliation centres around building authentic, respectful and reciprocal relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This vision is underpinned by the five interrelated dimensions of reconciliation: historical acceptance, race relations, equality and equity, institutional integrity and unity.
Racism scars hearts and leaves lifelong invisible wounds. There is never a place for racism at Windsor State School. We acknowledge our internal biases and how our identities and life experiences shape our perspectives. We therefore understand the need to promote self-awareness and self-reflection in the teaching and learning at our school.
We recognise the historical and continual trauma to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the continued disadvantage and intergenerational trauma caused by systemic racism. Our vision is to create an environment within our school community which encourages bravery in taking actions towards a just and equitable Australia. Our teaching of our country’s history through truth telling and engaging with current affairs, in age-appropriate ways, will nurture understanding, respect and pride in the strong identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
At Windsor State School, we are committed to building teacher and school leadership capacity to ensure culturally safe practices at all levels. We will continue to consult and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples so that our RAP vision and evolving goals are embedded throughout the curriculum and in school practices with cultural understanding and confidence. As a school community, we aim to support, celebrate and learn from First Nations peoples; amplifying their voices, deepening understanding and respect for Country and cultures.
