At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Bracken Ridge, we take inspiration from the example of our Patron saints- St Joseph, Mary, St Anthony and Mary of the Cross MacKillop; we foster the characteristics that allow us to aspire to build community, be loyal, courageous, honest and committed. By embodying these characteristics, we can be inclusive of and responsive to all peoples. In doing so we acknowledge our school’s responsibility in nurturing the future generations to develop rich and positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through an enlivened expression of our faith and identity at St Joseph’s; we also foster the importance of engaging with First Nations’ peoples, histories and cultures in respectful and authentic ways.
We are a community who care and who are committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to increase respect, reduce prejudice and strengthen unity. We shape people of the future, who reflect on the true past, look at the present and forward to the future to interact, live, work and learn together to respect and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories.
We endeavour to be transparent about the aims of Our Reconciliation Action Plan, realistic in the deliverables, and as a staff, students and wider community at St Joseph's we commit to learning more and actively doing more with each year that passes.
We are life-long learners, who are passionate about the need to engage in vibrant learning experiences, which deepen our respect for and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories. We are people who ‘See Jesus in Each Other’ and who dream of a reconciled Australia where everyone is treated with dignity and justice and given equal and equitable opportunities to achieve success.
