VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Latham Primary School is committed to reconciliation as a living, ongoing journey of learning, unlearning and relearning guided by the First Nations students, staff and families. We strive to nurture culturally aware citizens by ensuring our practice is guided by truth-telling and acknowledging the diverse perspectives, histories, voices and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to strengthening our partnerships with Ngunnawal and Ngambiri people, the Traditional Owners of the land our school is on, and we recognise their ongoing custodianship with Country. Through deep listening and an openness to reflect we will create culturally safe and responsive environments where all staff and students can work and walk together and build respectful relationships as a foundation for how we learn about reconciliation in education and in doing so, we will recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing. At Latham Primary School, reconciliation to us is more than an aspiration it is a lived action.  We acknowledge the diverse lived experiences of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers, parents, children and community members. We recognise that we are on the very beginning of our reconciliation journey as a school community, however, we are determined and dedicated to making space and time for meaningful conversations and ongoing self-refection,  We will work collaboratively in decision-making, ensuring that self-determination is essential to how we form relationships with our community, Country and cultures. In doing so, we hope that this will create a shared understanding of what reconciliation means to us, which will be reflected in our classrooms, the school and across our community.   By embedding this work into our daily practices, we will work towards a future where reconciliation is not just spoken but lived and felt by all.
