At our centre, reconciliation is a journey we are only just beginning together. As a new service with a new team, we recognise that meaningful reconciliation starts with learning, listening, and building understanding.
Our vision is to create an environment where children, families and educators develop a deep respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories, and where the values of truth, respect, belonging and connection are woven into our everyday practice.
As a diverse team, including many educators from overseas, we see reconciliation as an opportunity to learn together, grow our cultural awareness and strengthen our understanding of Australias history. Through this learning we aim to support children to appreciate that the land on which they learn and play has a long and continuing story, and that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Custodians of this Land.
Guided by the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and our families and community, we are committed to promoting truth telling in age-appropriate ways, fostering curiosity and building understanding of the past so that children grow up with empathy, respect and a desire for positive change.
We envision a centre community where reconciliation is reflected through relationships, shared learning and meaningful connections with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members and Elders. By listening to lived experiences and engaging with community, we aim to create opportunities for children to develop authentic connections to culture, Country and community.
A reconciled future for our centre community looks like every child, family and educator feeling safe, respected and that they belong. It is a place where differences are celebrated, voices are heard, and everyone works together towards a shared goal of respect, understanding and care for one another and for Country.
