Henley Brook Primary School is dedicated to reconciliation. We will strive to create a positive school community and environment that is culturally safe, responsive, respectful and fosters a sense of belonging and connection for all students. We commit to actively supporting our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to reach their educational goals and feel proud of their culture. We want to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have a voice and are empowered as they are future leaders. Henley Brook Primary School is located on Whadjuk Noongar boodjar (country) and we want to take brave, bold and authentic actions that deepen our communitys understanding of Noongar culture, history, language, lore, customs and strengths. However, we want to more deeply understand that there are many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with sophisticated and diverse knowledge systems, languages and cultures. We want to recognise and value the oldest continuous cultures in the world. We are committed to sharing true histories that build understanding, respect and empathy. We hope to achieve this by establishing maintaining authentic partnerships with wider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to enhance and deepen our understanding and perspectives and by investing in our educators and their journey. We will ensure this supports educators to feel more confident and capable of embedding Aboriginal perspectives into our everyday teaching and learning. Reconciliation is important to our school community, and we hope to foster an understanding that everyone has an important role to play in our reconciliation journey.
