For RSK Menai, reconciliation is a responsibility that we are committed to upholding for the children, the First Peoples of Australia, and all Australians. To us, reconciliation is a journey that begins with acknowledging the colonial histories and the sufferings that have been inflicted on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since colonisation, including the intergenerational traumas that are still felt today. For that reason, RSK Menai says sorry for the loss and harm, sorry for the land dispossession and the violence, and sorry for the Stolen Generations.
Nevertheless, reconciliation, for us, is also about looking at the future by raising the current and next generations in collaboration with all families and the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Reconciliation at RSK Menai manifests through culturally sensitive learning provocations and pedagogy. We will continue to teach about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and perspectives. We value tolerance as the fundamental and vital social under structure. Direct, indirect and institutional racism is firmly rejected at RSK Menai.
As a team, we reflect on our practices so we can do more to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians to connect. We will deepen our knowledge and develop confidence in respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-perspectives and pedagogies.
RSK Menai commits to the reconciliation process, striving for unity, justice and equity, and recognises the collective efforts required to build a harmonious future for all Australians.
