VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Seaford House is committed to reconciliation through respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people, honest learning about First Nations peoples cultures, histories and perspectives, and meaningful action towards reconciliation. We acknowledge and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Nations Custodians of this Land and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise the enduring connections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country and the strength, resilience, and knowledge that continue to shape Australia today.   We are committed to truth-telling and to deepening our understanding of Australias true histories, recognising the impacts of colonisation and the ongoing injustices faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We believe reconciliation requires us to listen, reflect, and take responsibility for embedding respect, equity, and inclusion into our everyday practices on our reconciliation journey.   At Seaford House, we see early childhood as a vital space for reconciliation. Through play, relationships, and intentional teaching, we aim to support children to develop empathy, respect, and an understanding of fairness. We are committed to respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives, cultures, and ways of knowing into our program in authentic and age-appropriate ways that go beyond symbolic gestures.   We commit to building and nurturing respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and to creating culturally safe spaces where families and community members feel welcomed, valued, and heard. We will continue to educate and reflect as a learning community, supporting staff, children, and families to grow in understanding, challenge bias, and contribute to positive change.   Reconciliation, for us, is an ongoing journey. We understand that meaningful change takes time, humility, and sustained effort. As a community, we commit to continuing this journey with openness, accountability, and respect, working towards a more just, inclusive, and equitable future for all.
