At our Holmview service, we recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing journey of learning, reflection, and meaningful action. We acknowledge that, as a team, we are at different stages in our understanding of reconciliation, and we are committed to approaching this work with humility, openness, and respect. Our vision is to create a culturally safe and inclusive environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives are genuinely valued, embedded, and visible in everyday practice- not as isolated or tokenistic experiences, but as a consistent and authentic part of childrens learning and our service culture. We are committed to building the knowledge, confidence, and capability of our educators, ensuring they feel supported and empowered to respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories and perspectives in meaningful ways. Through ongoing professional learning, reflection, and collaboration, we aim to deepen our understanding and strengthen our practice including exploring frameworks that support culturally responsive teaching. We value the importance of listening to and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, and we seek to build respectful relationships with the local First Nations community to guide and inform our journey. Through this work, we aim to support children in developing respect, understanding, and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories, and contributions - including developing an age-appropriate awareness of Australias shared histories. In doing so, we hope to contribute to a more inclusive and reconciled future.
