Our vision at Genius Learning, Mont Albert is to acknowledge the process towards reconciliation is the responsibility of all Australians and this process fosters equality and equity between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders communities. At Genius Learning, Mont Albert our vision for a united Australia in which we fully respect the Land that we reside and learn on and we place huge value and respect towards Traditional Owners of Lands across Australia and value their unique histories and heritage. The connections which Traditional Owners have with the Land are respected and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders histories and continuing contributions are respectfully taught about, understood and valued. This journey towards reconciliation is one that we want to work on in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders communities. We want to develop an understanding about, and reflect upon, the colonial injustices which continue to impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Reconciliation can only begin where there is a shared and honest understanding of the past. So, one of our first commitments is to educate our staff and families of the histories of the First Peoples of this great nation, as well as about the truths of Australia's shared history since colonisation. As a centre we know and understand how important the early years are, and we can work together as a centre to bring this knowledge to the children and plant the seeds of understanding. Reconciliation in Genius Learning, Mont Albert will be achieved when the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are widely and respectfully known, celebrated and understood and unresolved issues in the relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can be addressed together.
