Reconciliation for us means becoming more informed about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' histories and cultures in order to build respectful relationships between First Nations peoples and our Service. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to challenge ourselves and gain a better understanding of the experiences and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Putting our reconciliation commitments into practice can be accomplished in a number of ways, including empowering and educating our Staff so that they have the knowledge and skills to teach and educate children and the community about the true histories of Australia and the cultural diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
A reconciled Australia includes the respect for the rich diversity of histories, cultures and identities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We at Discovery Bay Werribee will take the opportunity to work together to connect with and build a strong, meaningful and long-term relationships with Elders and Community members.
