At Finigan School of Distance Education, reconciliation means working towards healing and rebuilding relationships with First Nations peoples and communities, by recognising and taking responsibility for the impact of settler colonialism and committing to ongoing efforts to decolonise our curriculum, policies, and practices. We recognise that true reconciliation requires a fundamental shift in our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, perspectives, and the Lands on which we live, work, and learn. We commit to ongoing efforts towards reconciliation and the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Indigenous sovereignty.
As a result of this Reconciliation Action Plan, we aim to enhance the educational experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and all students by creating a more supportive, inclusive, and culturally safe environment. Our goal is to bridge the gap of equity and equality between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and non-Indigenous peoples. We will do this through promoting reconciliation and providing meaningful opportunities for all our students to deepen their understanding of and connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and perspectives.
