We at Explorers Early Learning Croydon are committed to reconciliation as well as, increasing our awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples 'cultures and histories. We acknowledge and respect First Nation Elders and Traditional Custodians, past, present and emerging, of the Wurundjeri Land on which our centre is built. We envision a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognized and celebrated as being the First Nations people of Australia. For us, a reconciled future is a space in which all First Nation peoples feel welcomed, respected and acknowledged. A space in which First Nation people have a voice and their contributions are not just heard but are a driving force for change as well as respect for country and the future.
Based on our reconciliation journey and learning thus far, our next most powerful steps include continuing to support the members of our community in building knowledge and capacity around First Nation peoples and their cultures. We aim to achieve this through our inclusive early childhood programs, environments, curriculum, and daily interactions with our children, educators, and families. We will be open to new ideas and concepts and encourage critical reflection of our own teaching practices.
We will seek advice and knowledge from Elders and their community who choose to share their knowledge and teach us about their cultural heritages, customs and traditional ways. We will also research and intentionally seek out answers to our questions.
We will embrace all concepts and ideas about reconciliation and traditions of Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds.
A better understanding and respect for First Nations cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia’s cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity.
