We at Explorers Early Learning Beaconsfield are committed to reconciliation as well as, increasing awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures. We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Owners of the Land, on which our centre is built. We envision a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognized and celebrated as being the First Nations people of Australia. We learn about their stories, wisdom, traditions, and cultures from the past and present and respectfully share our learnings with our Explorers community. We will achieve this through our inclusive early childhood programs, environments, curriculum, and daily interactions with our children, educators, and families. We will be open to new ideas and concepts and encourage critical reflection of our own teaching practices. We will seek advice and knowledge from Elders and their community who choose to share their knowledge and teach us about their cultural heritages, customs and traditional ways. We will also research and intentionally seek out answers to our questions. We will embrace all concepts and ideas about reconciliation and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds. A better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia’s cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity.
