We at Explorers Early Learning Williams Landing are committed to reconciliation as well as increasing respect, awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.
We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Owners of the Land the Boonwurrung People, on which our centre is built. We envision a future where Aboriginal and The Torres Strait Islander peoples are recognised and celebrated as being the First Nations people of Australia. We wish to learn about their stories, wisdom, traditions, and cultures from the past and present and respectfully share this knowledge and stories with our Explorers community.
We aim to achieve this through our inclusive early childhood programs, learning environments, curriculum, and daily interactions with children, educators, and families. We will be open to new ideas and concepts and encourage critical reflection of our own teaching practices.
We will respectfully seek advice and knowledge from Elders and the First Nations community who choose to share their knowledge and teach us about their cultural heritages, customs and traditional ways. We will also research and intentionally seek out answers to our questions. We will embrace all concepts and ideas about reconciliation and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds.
A better understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia’s cultural heritages and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of a fair and equitable Australian identity.
