VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision for reconciliation at Katie's Kindergarten and Early Learning Centre and Katie's Preschool Centre is to consistently develop our existing knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and perspectives to provide a routine and program that is both culturally safe and rich. Our vision is based on principles of respect, understanding and collaboration. We value diversity within our service. We will continue to provide and plan experiences that broaden children’s, families’ and educators’ perspectives and encourage them to participate, whenever possible, in our reconciliation journey. We plan to consistently update and add to this RAP in our team meetings. We will encourage all educators and families to contribute to our RAP and will use it to form part of our Quality Improvement Plan. The respectful inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, languages, and perspectives into the curriculum is very important to us.  We are also committed to ongoing professional development related to learning about First Nations histories, cultures, and contemporary issues. We believe building strong partnerships with local First Nations communities and organisations is essential as these partnerships can meaningfully guide the resources and information that we are engaging with, and support opportunities for cultural learning exchanges. We embrace a holistic approach to supporting learning and action towards reconciliation that recognises the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual well-being and acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being. We endevour to create inclusive physical environments that reflect the diversity of the children and families at our service, and that respect the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives. We believe educators should adapt their teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and cultural backgrounds. This involves recognising and respecting the individual needs and strengths of each child.
