At Hermit Park Outside School Hours Care, reconciliation means building respectful, authentic and mutually beneficial relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. We are committed to honouring the histories, cultures and contributions and diversity of the First Nations peoples of this place we now call Australia, and embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives meaningfully into our everyday practice. To us, a reconciled Australia is one where cultural identity is celebrated, diversity is embraced and equity is actively pursued. It is a nation that demonstrates zero tolerance for racism, values truth-telling and acknowledges the past while working together toward a more just and inclusive future for all. In 2026, we strengthen our commitment by prioritising cultural safety and cultural responsiveness across our service. Cultural safety means creating an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and community members feel respected, valued and empowered in their identity. It requires ongoing reflection on our attitudes, policies and practices to ensure they are inclusive, responsive and free from bias. We recognise cultural safety, and reconciliation, as a continuous journey of listening, learning and accountability. Reconciliation at Hermit Park OSHC is embedded in action. We commit to recognising and including significant events, that are meaningful to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our local community with authenticity and respect. We will continue to embedding First Nations perspectives into our programs, practice. We will continue to work towards building and maintaining and strengthening our partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the local community alongside Hermit Park State School.. We believe reconciliation is everyones responsibility. By ensuring there are opportunities for educators, children, families and our broader community to engage with our Reconciliation Action Plan, we foster pride, deepen understanding and contribute to a more equitable and united Australia. Together, we walk forward guided by respect, reflection and a shared commitment to meaningful change.
