Story House Early Learning Mernda is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space where everyone can come together to learn about, understand, and contribute to the reconciliation process. We strongly believe in fostering a deep connection between the wider community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our centre holds First Nations peoples in the highest regard, and we are committed to strengthening ways of honouring and respecting First Nations cultures and connections to Country. Our philosophy is driven by the principle of respectfully learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives, ways of being and contributions. We believe that by sharing culturally responsive and respectful learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories, traditions, continuing contributions and future aspirations, we can actively support a future of reconciliation. We firmly believe that a collaborative approach is essential for promoting mutual respect and understanding. Therefore, we strive to incorporate the values of collaboration, respect and knowledge into our curriculum and learning experiences. Our service has developed sincere and meaningful relationships with the local Aboriginal Elder, which we deeply cherish. We believe that this meaningful relationship will foster reciprocal understanding and provide invaluable insights from the wisdom and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. By doing so, we aim to create a platform that connects individuals from diverse backgrounds and nurtures a sense of community in which all staff, families, and children can participate.
