Our vision here at Haven Early Learning is to continue to build and strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples for the mutual benefit of our early learning service community and the wider local community. We are committed to supporting and building these connections in a respectful and meaningful way. We will create safe and inclusive education and care environments and experiences for the children here at Haven, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Having reconciliation embedded (meaningfully sprinkled and intertwined) within our daily practices moves away from a “tokenistic” approach to fostering deeper understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Cultures. We believe that the implementation of an integrated play-based program here at Haven will continue to encourage, foster and support exploration to scaffold the development of children’s independence and respect for diversity. This, in turn, contributes to the holistic development of a child. We recognise the importance of reconciliation being an ongoing and ever-evolving journey and, through this active recognition, we will commit to continued learning and to deepening and demonstrating our understanding that there is no end point in the reconciliation process.
