Flinders Children’s Centre and Tji Tji Wiltja Preschool is located on Bungala Land in the Mid North, Spencer Gulf region. Our vision for reconciliation recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as our nation’s First Peoples. We acknowledge this place as being a significant meeting place for various groups of First Nations People who regularly meet, greet, exchange, trade and conduct significant ceremonies within the Spencer Gulf region. In order to move forward in our reconciliation journey, we must first accept the past and ask ourselves; what will we do about reconciliation?
At our preschool, we are open and honest with our children, valuing them as the capable and competent citizens they are, and not keeping history a mystery. This means addressing the injustices and inequalities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples since colonisation, and recognising their strength and resilience. We are committed to finding authentic and meaningful ways to connect and engage with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, including past, present and future families of the Flinders Children’s centre and Tji Tji Wiltja preschool. We facilitate opportunities for Elders and Traditional Owners to share their cultural and historical knowledge as they choose to with children and staff through a learning environment and culture that is safe and supportive. We strive to form ongoing partnerships which are based on respect, trust, understanding and are of mutual benefit. We also seek to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children by fostering a sense of personal pride and providing opportunities to celebrate their cultures alongside their peers. We are committed to making reconciliation an ongoing process; continually reflecting and transforming our curriculum and practice ensuring we respect, value reflect and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, cultures and histories in the learning and life of our Preschool.
