Our vision for reconciliation here at Goodstart Hope Valley is about a localised and united journey towards a future where everyone acknowledges and values the cultural histories, heritages, traditions and continuing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will reach these goals by genuinely embedding reconciliation actions into everyday practice, rather than reserving them for special events or as extra-curricular activities. We will continue building an appreciation that reconciliation is everybody’s business and for everyone’s benefit, driving this vision throughout the whole centre and wider local community. Our vision for reconciliation is founded on a commitment to building long-term, rather than short term respectful relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, through deep and ongoing conversations, consultations and collaboration. We will focus not only on the importance of the children’s learning, but also on the importance of continued professional learning for educators as we promote cultural competency across the centre and wider community. In conclusion our vision is to continue to drive the importance of reconciliation as we develop a centre and local community culture that represents equality and equity, historical acceptance of our shared history and removal of negative race relations.
