VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Community Kids Heatly are committed to working in respectful ways with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities to realise their rights.

We recognise that since colonisation, successive government policies have systematically disadvantaged and marginalised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is simultaneously imperative to acknowledge the strengths and resilience shown by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and communities in the face of discrimination, and to celebrate the continued significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contributions in shaping a shared sense of national unity and identity.

Community Kids Heatley affirms the special place and identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia by recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories, along with their diverse and dynamic natures. We   value the contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples make to Australian culture and society. We honour their resilience and strength and value the opportunity to learn from First Nations peoples, cultures and histories. We recognise that in order to influence the policies and practices of government and other decision makers, there must be multi-layered action from all Australians.

We are working towards a world where peoples’ human rights are self-determination can be realised. Australians will know we are truly reconciled when the past is no longer a barrier to forming relationships of friendship and trust and having access to equal and equitable outcomes. We must all play an active part in working towards this vision.
