Here at Goodstart Early Learning North Mackay, reconciliation means, everyone coming together, respectfully teaching and learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s cultures and histories proudly. Building relationships between non-Indigenous people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, listening to their perspectives on how to move forward, being accepting of diversity, and ensuring that everyone feels welcome all support our reconciliation journey. From our perspective a reconciled Australia would be seen through the establishment and maintaining respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through an awareness and understanding of the past, acknowledgement of its impact and a committed action to change. This would mean that everyone is treated with respect and kindness, and we value the contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples bring to Australia’s society.
